2015 Introduction to
Solo Whitewater Canoe

Prerequisite:

Flatwater/Moving Water Class or equivalent experience and permission from instructor.
Minimum Class Size: 3
Some loaner canoes and other equipment are available

What You Learn

The Intro to Solo Whitewater Canoe Class is designed for people who have good basic boat control and experience running moving water and are interested in learning whitewater paddling. Day 1 will be on flatwater or an easy stretch of river and focus on improving the effectiveness of your strokes and practicing basic maneuvers used in whitewater. We'll also cover bracing and what to do when you flip. The location for day 2 depends on water levels and the skill of the group, but will give you a chance to practice your skills and ability to read water features and maneuver in class 2 rapids.

The class is limited to a total of 6 students.

Equipment

  • Students are expected to have all the essentials. This includes canoe, personal floatation device (PFD), paddle, and appropriate clothing. See the Student Information Sheet for more details, including places to rent canoes.
  • The LCCC may have some canoes available for loan during classes through generous members. Please inquire during sign up.

Cost

Free to LCCC members. LCCC membership is just $15/year. There will be a $5 insurance fee for non-ACA members.
